Exploring Atlanta with Dogs

More local business, from breweries to luxe hotels, are not only becoming more pet friendly, but embracing your furry friends. Here are just a few of our favorites.

Mandarin Oriental Atlanta

This luxe hotel in Buckhead welcomes each dog with a cozy bed, bowl, doggie dental kit, organic bone and toys, while in-room dining and pet turndown services are available upon request.

Piedmont Park

Piedmont Park is a haven for dogs and humans alike! While a City of Atlanta ordinance requires all dogs in public areas to be leashed, Piedmont Dog Park is one of the few locations in metro Atlanta where dogs may run free, off the leash. Today, this special off-leash area is one of the most popular features of Piedmont Park.

Loews Atlanta Hotel

As one of the first national hotel chains to launch a pet program, Loews Atlanta has everything your pet need to feel at home. The program treats four-legged friends like VIPs, including welcome amenities, a customized list of pet-friendly restaurants, groomers, vets and walking areas. There is a pet fee, but no weight restrictions.

Hampton + Hudson

During Hampton+Hudson's monthly Doggie Mingle, treat your furry pal to chef-made treats on the patio while supporting local nonprofit, Doggies on the Catwalk.

Ponce City Market

Just outside PCM's entrance off the Atlanta BeltLine, this unique dog valet service from Barking Hound Village allows visitors the option to drop off their dog in a safe, comfortable environment by the hour. While you grab a snack in the Food Hall, you can trust your pup is in good hands.

Second Self Beer Company

Pups are always welcome at this West Midtown brewery. Second Self also regularly hosts Pours for Pets events to raise money for non-profit, no-kill shelters in the Atlanta area. Check www.secondselfbeer.com for more info.

City Winery

The unique music venue and fully functioning winery adjacent to Ponce City Market, offers a Canine Cuisine menu complete with Pooched Eggs and Muff Loaf. While you sip your varietal of choice, your pup can lap up non-alcoholic Apollo Peak Wines.

Sweetwater Creek State Park

This wild getaway offers trails for all skills levels, five campsites, two fishing docks, 10 yurts, eight picnic shelters and a 215-acre lake, among other amenities. The most popular trail runs parallel to the creek and passes by the ruins of New Manchester Manufacturing Company. Open daily 7 am-dark. Parking: $5.

Ace & Jack

Located inside Ponce City Market, this trendy pet shop sells bedding, treats, collars, leashes, toys and more from brands like Harry Barker, Himalayan Pet Supply and Mr. Dog that are sure to have your pup's tail wagging. Bonus: outside Ponce City Market, take your pooch on a walk along the Atlanta BeltLine's Eastside Trail.

Arabia Mountain

This “mountain” is actually a granite monadnock, or an isolated rock hill (much like Stone Mountain). The 2,550-acre area includes two lakes and plenty of trails that vary in distance, difficulty and topographic scenery. Well-tempered and socialized dogs only are allowed.
